The mission of this program is to address the unique needs of unsheltered individuals by providing high-quality, reality-based care to this disenfranchised community.
Although numerous free clinics and traditional points of entry to hospital care exist, many barriers to healthcare remain for unsheltered individuals. Overcoming these barriers requires direct outreach to this community; the Miami Street Medicine (MSM) program will directly engage people on their own terms and turf.
This “home care” is done with the intention of building trust, bridging gaps in existing care infrastructure, transitioning patients into housing & primary-care relationships, offering education & counseling, and delivering other high-quality healthcare services free of charge. Additionally, the quiet healing potential of simply acknowledging a person’s humanity, listening empathetically, and providing service outreach should not be underestimated.
